"Skeleton Dance" by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, 1929.
The classic short film "Skeleton Dance", animated by Ub Iwerks and produced by Walt Disney, is one of our favorites. We wanted to pay tribute to Ub's work, and also see if we could apply the same animation techniques he used to create the multiple dancing skeletons to stop-motion. This short was made with one skeleton puppet and Dawn moved the camera 4 times for each shot. Of course we can't have stop motion skeletons without acknowledging the masterful work of Ray Harryhausen, and we are absolutely humbled by the challenges of bringing these characters to life in stop motion. These artists made it look effortless, and this film is a celebration of their work.
Quick! We've got to get to YouTube!
